Bill rides his bicycle everywhere, including to the Senior Center regardless of the weather. Seeking a warm place to spend the day, Bill started coming to the Senior Center in the winter. He worked on puzzles in the lobby and made friends while participating in a healthy aging series, “Breakfast for the Brain.” He eventually warmed up to the other older adults and began staying for lunch Monday through Friday.
The Senior Center team’s personal, non-institutional approach of helping people while preserving their dignity made it possible for Bill to accept help on his own terms, in his own time, and in his own way.
Bill has made a lot of friends at the senior center. “Sharing life experiences is important. Where else could you talk about the Eberly Brothers or life on the farm?” says Bill. “I used to come for the puzzles, but now I come for the people.”
