“They love coming here because they are needed,” says Wabash High School teacher Sara Cole. Cole brings her Life Skills class to the Senior Center each week. The Center was the first community placement for the class as a bridge to the community in service, work, social interaction, and using public transportation.
“They came because they are part of the class, but they enjoy it because the seniors appreciate them and the students sense that,” says Cole. “The Senior Center has given the kids the opportunity to give and know what reward there is in giving.” “The Senior Center is something special,” she says. “Here you are loved, treated with respect and you are wanted.”
